A day after Kelly and Thomas’s wedding I was covering Dana and Phil’s wedding. The day also started early with the make up phase. This time it wasn’t at the bride’s parents house but at Rushpool Hall near Saltburn-by-the-Sea. I followed my usual modus operandi: shutter to silent, roam around and let things unfold. Kelly and Thomas’s wedding was the first time I used the Flashbender 2, Frank Doorhof Edition on my flash. I love it, it mixes flash and natural light well and gives you a nice, even lighting. There was quite a bit of light fall off towards the middle of the room where Dana and the girls were and it came in very handy. The bridesmaids and flower girls were all dressed in bright pink kimonos and Dana in a white one matching the tint of their dresses, I loved the colours, it livens up the photos and gives them a kick.
The ceremony was downstairs in the venue, big windows facing the wedding couple so the light was excellent. It is always a struggle to get the best light in venues. You are at the mercy of the existing light in the room and sometimes it is hard to find the right light since 9 out of 10 times you are not allowed to use flash during the ceremony. I do love churches but often the light conditions are less than optimal so I really enjoyed the optimal conditions that this venue presented. After the cutting of the cake and the first dance this thoroughly enjoyable wedding came to an end for me.
